Bulutui is located next to Bahoi and was known infamously for its blast-fishing activities. Currently the number of this illegal method is on the decline due to law enforcement and community’s increasing awareness for sustainability. This village is located on a hillside that slopes directly into the sea, with the village government office located above the sea. This unique landscape is making this village unique and very beautiful in its own right.
In Bulutui, YAPEKA and JBS are collaborating with the local octopus fisher community and also the greater fisher community in spreading the importance of sustainable fisheries that hopefully will further decrease the application of illegal fishing methods such as blast-fishing. In this village, we are also promoting sustainable fishing practice and management to the local community, by implementing community based temporary closure in some fishing areas, while also promoting implementation of community based patrol to further prevent illegal fishing.
