Bahoi is a small village located in North Minahasa District in North Sulawesi Province. This village is one of the first ecotourism destinations in North Sulawesi and aims to reestablish its prominence as a tourist destination. This village is just ninety minutes away from Manado and located next to a calm and pleasant shore. Marine Protected Area – serves as a sea natural conservation zone – is one of its proud assets, other than a very good food – cooked by its friendly villagers.
In Bahoi, YAPEKA and JBS is actively supporting its homestay association in actively promoting their business to prospective customers. We are also actively trying to enhance their capability in managing their homestay by increasing their operational capability, financial management, and also involve them in environmental protection.
YAPEKA and JBS is also actively working together with the Bahoi Village’s POKMASWAS (Kelompok Masyarakat Pengawas – literaly translate as community monitoring group) in educating the local community about the importance of natural conservation and its positive impact to the village. We are also actively building their capacity in conservation, and also involve them in our routine activities such as seagrass monitoring and dugong monitoring.
Bulutui
Bulutui is picturesque North Minahasa village, and a former a blast-fishing hotspot. Work with YAPEKA and JBS to support octopus and other community fisher groups to further their development of sustainable fisheries and establish community patrols.
Tarabitan
In Tarabitan, with UNEP support, YAPEKA and JBS are initiating the development of a community-based spirulina farming enterprise to provide an alternative to livelihoods based on fishing. You will also help with seagrass monitoring and BRUV surveys.
