Napo Ila is the location of a traditional fishing area near Bulutui village in North Minahasa, Sulawesi.
Napo Ila Indah (Beautiful Napo Ila) is a group of local fishers who specialise in catching octopus there.
Rumah Boboca (Octopus House) is a fishing ground where Napo Ila Indah members manage a regular temporary closure of their fishery to ensure sustainability.
Regular closure of their fishery aims to preserve a vital natural resource, and to improve the value of the animals harvested during open seasons.
As a Wallacea Expeditioner, you will help to collect and collate data that will prove and guide Napo Ila Indah’s conservation work.
Napo Ila Indah members are also exploring ways to add value to their catch. One result of this is a collaboration with local chefs that has resulted in new octopus-based delicacies being added to local cuisine.
If you enjoy seafood, don’t miss sampling these. JBS staff swear they are delicious!
Wallacea Expeditions are developed and delivered by PT Jelajah Buana Semesta (JBS), a division of YAPEKA.
10% of JBS profit is returned to community-led marine conservation organisations.
